Foundations: YE Impact 2016-2017

Youth Entrepreneurs transforms the mindsets of young people, inspiring them to pursue their dreams. We know that our experiential education model has made an impact in the lives of thousands of young people. From business tours and classroom volunteers to market day and internship opportunities, community catalyses YE beyond the classroom.

Community support is key to that impact. That’s why we were excited to share our growth at 1 Million Cups in Wichita, Kansas, YE’s founding city. The national event combines coffee, conversation and entrepreneurship. Our presentation was a chance to show how YE has grown beyond Wichita into new regions and why we still need the support of the local community.

“We know that an organization like ours does not stay around for 26 years and continue to flourish without community support,” said Mik Love, YE Program Manager, during his presentation at 1 Million Cups. “From field trips to classroom volunteers, to guest speakers and mentorship opportunities, your help is priceless.”

In our recently released 2017 Annual Report, we feature our latest growth and impact in-depth. It’s been a monumental year for us. Over the past 12 months, we launched a new website, expanded our regions, unified nationally and entered 36 new schools. Our mission has never been more alive. Here are just a few highlights of our impact by the numbers:

87% Market Day ROI

YE is more than just a class. Our experiential education model instills entrepreneurial and economic principles built for prosperity. Students apply classroom knowledge to run their own pop-up businesses during Market Day. This year, student earnings on Market Day averaged $125, with $190,111.47 total sales combined on Market Days across the nation.

“Market Day created a buzz around our school, and the students really took ownership of their businesses. They realized they could make money and have fun doing it, but that also required work, and sometimes overcoming challenge.” - Jason Filie, YE Instructor, Cornerstone Leadership and Business High School, Detroit, MI

53 staff members

Staff is at the heart of building the YE movement. Our staff is driven by purpose, and they are committed to doing work that matters. From national outreach to research specialists, YE team members solve problems and take action every day. Meet some of the YE staff here.

“No matter how big or small of a change, our students and teachers go out into the world and impact others. I get excited about how we can have such a dramatic impact on the young people of today.” - Ashley Scheideman, Central Region Executive Director

$1,339,000 Biz Bang Net Revenue

The biennial gala in Wichita, Kansas, raises money to support the YE programs. More than 900 attendees enjoyed the event organized by YE alumni, including Ilusion Productions, Xclusive Events and Funky Monkeys Shaved Ice.

2,570 alumni

In our 26 year history, we have inspired more than 27,000 students to overcome barriers and seize opportunities for good. This year, 78% of students say that YE changed their future education and career goals. We know YE equips students with the tools necessary to achieve their dreams. Discover where a few of our alumni are now.

“You need a support system, a group that helps you and believes in you. It is necessary in the culture we’re living in right now, and YE fulfills that. YE instilled so much confidence in me. I want other students to feel that anything is possible.” - Maleni Palacio, North Atlanta High school, Atlanta, GA

As our mission grows, community support continues to play a vital role in YE’s success. “The time and resources that people in the community have poured into our students is much needed and much appreciated,” Mik shared at 1 Million Cups. “But we know the work is not done.”

Together, we continue to help more students ignite passions, develop their innate talents and find the path to fulfillment. Explore more of YE’s impact in our 2017 Annual Report.
