Thunderbird Charities Helps Expand Youth Entrepreneurs in Metro Phoenix

PHOENIX, ARIZ. – Every child deserves a chance to succeed and educators at 19 Phoenix-area schools are at the front lines of empowering their students to transform their lives through Youth Entrepreneurs (YE).
The national nonprofit organization was recently awarded $25,000 from Thunderbirds Charities so their program could be implemented at Empower College Prep High School as well as other schools across Maricopa County.  YE provides educators with resources at no cost to them or their schools to teach students entrepreneurial and economic concepts as well as key principles and character traits through its eight Foundational Values. The educators then tailor a curriculum around their students, providing them with fun, engaging and experiential learning throughout the semester or year. The activities are hands-on and character-building, providing students an opportunity to discover their innate gifts and talents and how to apply them beyond the classroom.
"I am beyond excited to bring YE to my students at Empower College Prep because I believe there is so much untapped potential lying within each individual student,” Shaylan Richardson, an educator at Empower College Prep who is teaching the Youth Entrepreneurs curriculum this semester.  “I can’t wait to see how YE transforms and ignites each student to pursue the endless opportunities that will come into their pathway that will change the trajectory of their lives.”
“I am very appreciative to Thunderbird Charities for the generous assistance in supporting our inaugural YE program at Empower College Prep,” Richardson said.  “Because of The Thunderbirds, our student’s lives will never be the same!"
Established in 1991 in Wichita, Kansas, Youth Entrepreneurs has expanded to include both middle and high school students in 29 states and today has more than 35,000 alumni. The program is supported through national donor contributions and local corporate investments.
